With today’s fun time-trials meet at Serra High School the track and field competition season has begun! A big thanks to the Serra boys and the Mercy: Burlingame and Notre Dame Belmont girls for a fun competition and great BBQ afterwards. The purpose of the meet was to dust off the cobwebs for veterans and give rookies a taste of how a track meet works. In that regard the meet was a big success. There were a lot of great efforts and good attitudes today, and it makes us coaches look forward to the rest of the season!
Being only the third week of February we aren’t expecting PRs at this point. It is enough to be further along than you were at this point last year and focusing on technique and conditioning. The speed will come!
Having said that, we did have some really great PRs by veterans in the field events today. The ones that stood out:
Evan Burton in the Triple Jump
Godfrey Ng in the Shot Put
Aaron Kho in the Pole Vault
Chris Chu in the Pole Vault
Erin Huntzinger in the High Jump
Also great job Anthony Balancio in the High Jump
I also want to highlight some first-year athletes who impressed today:
Karen Carino (won the long jump)
Ben Tam (attempting 9-0 in the Pole Vault)
Aye Naing (great first 1600)
Next Thursday is our first home League meet against San Mateo. Following that is a busy period with lots of dual meets and Saturday meets. It is time to get focused and dedicated. Be at practice everyday so you don’t miss out.
Don’t forget, the Lap-a-thon is this Friday.
Again, great job.
