So, I got a bit busy for a while and haven’t posted since the F/S Finals. A lot has happened since then. Westmoor had some big efforts at the varsity P.A.L. Trials and Finals. Our Pole Vaulters continued to dominate with Dominic Chavarria and Erin Huntzinger becoming Varsity League Champs. Kylie Goo won both the 800m and 1600m. Karen Carino tied for 1st in the Long Jump, and Anthony Balancio got 2nd in the High Jump. Our girls 4×400 (Canta, Carino, Okugbe, Goo) did real well too, getting 3rd place.
Here are all the CCS Qualifiers:
- Dominic Chavarria – Pole Vault
- Kylie Goo- 800/1600
- Erin Huntzinger – Pole Vault
- Karen Carino -Long Jump
- Anthony Balancio – High Jump
- 4×400 Relay (Canta, Carino, Okugbe, Goo)
- Tiara Cobbins – Shot Put
- Caleb Sin – 110 Hurdles
- Mimi Chang – 300 Hurdles
- Seira Tanaka – Triple Jump
- 4×100 Relay (Chang, Carino, Okugbe, Oliveros)
- Marichel Mendoza – Pole Vault
- Ivan Szeto – Pole Vault
Westmoor continued to do well into CCS. Kylie Goo (800), Dominic Chavarria (Pole Vault), and Tiara Cobbins (Shot Put) all qualified for CCS Finals. Tiara stepped up in the post season with some monster throws. Her top throw of 37′ 4.5″ shattered Westmoor’s F/S girl record by nearly 5′. Anthony Balancio also stole the show by clearing 5’10” on his first attempt and then, on his third attempt PRing, becoming the first Ram in 12 years to clear 6′ in the High Jump!
CCS Finals was our final stop this year. Kylie just missed out on State by less than half a second, getting 4th in a loaded 800m race. We are all proud of her efforts and wish her luck at Northern Arizona next year! Dominic and Tiara both did well, finishing 7th in CCS. Both of them will be back next year.
I can’t believe the season is over. As I type this we are just a few hours away from our awards dinner, where Coach DiMaggio and I will be saying goodbye to a number of seniors that we have gotten to know, some for the last 3 or 4 years. We hope this season has been memorable and meaningful for you, as it has for us.
Soon I will be posting information about Cross Country Summer practice. Look out for it.
